Garden Dragonfly – Broad Bodied Chaser

We only have a small garden, but I pack as much in as I can with regard plants for insects and some very small scale food production (tomatos, corgettes and raspberries). We have no pond. This afternoon we were pottering around the garden watering and picking fruit when I noticed, at the top of a tall garden cane was a dragonfly, taking in the late afternoon rays. It kept flying off, only to return in a few seconds. I presumed it was hunting. From looking at books and a little basic knowledge I came to the conclusion that it is a Broad Bodied Chaser.

I was really pleased as I’d never seen one before, let alone in my garden.
